Taiwan receives first batch of US-made Harpoon missile systems
- Taiwan’s first batch of Harpoon missiles arrived for 100 shore-mounted systems, enhancing coastal defense capabilities.
- Harpoon is an all-weather, over-the-horizon, anti-ship missile manufactured by McDonnell Douglas.
- The AGM-84E is a standoff land attack missile and the AGM-84H/K is a SLAM-ER cruise missile variant.
- They use special radar to find their targets and fly very low over the water to avoid being seen or intercepted.

Karnataka government withdraws ‘general consent’ given to CBI
- Legal basis: As per Section 6 of the DSPE Act, 1946, the CBI has to take consent of the state government for investigation.
- CBI vs NIA: CBI needs state consent; NIA has nationwide jurisdiction.
- Types of consent: General: New consent is not required for each case.
- Position-specific: Permission required
- Exceptions: Supreme Court/High Court orders, cases from other states, or cases registered before withdrawal of consent
