- Swaminathan S. Iyer has been appointed as Whole-time Member (Lifetime) of IRDAI for a term of five years or till the age of 62 years.
- Iyer currently serves as Executive Vice President at Tata AIA Life Insurance, overseeing legal, regulatory affairs and ESG.
- Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India is an autonomous and statutory body under the Ministry of Finance.

- Poonam Gupta has been appointed as RBI Deputy Governor for a three-year term, filling the vacancy created by the departure of M. D. Patra.

- With nearly two decades of experience at the IMF and the World Bank, Gupta holds a PhD in economics from the University of Maryland.

- RBI announced that 98.21% of ₹2000 notes have returned to the banking system after being withdrawn in May 2023.
- The total value of ₹2,000 notes in circulation as of March 31, 2024 reduced from ₹3.56 lakh crore to ₹6,366 crore.
- ₹2000 notes will continue to be legal tender with deposit/exchange facilities at RBI offices.

India’s current account deficit will remain in safe zone in 2025-26: Report
- India’s current account deficit (CAD) is projected to remain in the safe zone of 1.3% of GDP in 2025-26, supported by strong services exports and remittance inflows.
- Despite pressure on merchandise trade, CAD remained stable at 1.1% of GDP in Q3:2024-25, supported by a high services surplus.
- Deterioration in the oil trade balance and foreign capital outflows contributed to the rupee’s depreciation in the third quarter.

- India’s manufacturing PMI rose to 58.1 in March, the highest in 8 months, driven by increased sales and production.
- Stocks of finished goods declined sharply as demand rebounded, prompting firms to acquire inputs at the fastest pace in seven months.

UPI transactions reach record ₹24.77 lakh crore in March
- UPI transactions grew by 13.5% in March, reaching a record 18.3 billion transactions with a total value of ₹24.77 lakh crore.
- Daily average transactions exceeded 590 million, equivalent to ₹79,910 crore, representing a growth of 36% in volume and 25% in value year-on-year.
- New guidelines effective from April 1 will ensure that UPI IDs linked to inactive mobile numbers are deactivated.

Kumbakonam Arecanut and Thovalai Garland receive GI tag
- Kumbakonam betel leaf, grown along the banks of river Cauvery in the delta region, is set to become the first agricultural product from the region to receive the GI tag.
- Thovalai Manikka Malai, a floral garland made of oleander and rose, will also be given the GI tag for its gemstone-like appearance and intricate craftsmanship.
