Sachin Tendulkar accepts MCC’s Honorary Club membership
- Sachin Tendulkar has been awarded Honorary Membership of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC).
- The MCC, one of Australia’s oldest sporting clubs and managers of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), announced this on December 27, 2024.
- Tendulkar has scored 449 runs in five Tests at the MCG at an average of 44.90, including one century and three half-centuries.
- In 2012, Tendulkar was awarded the Order of Australia.

Russia declares emergency after oil spill in Black Sea
- On December 15, 2024, a Russian oil tanker, the Volgoneft 212, breaks apart during a winter storm, causing a massive oil spill in the Black Sea.
- The tanker was carrying more than 4,000 tonnes of fuel. The disaster caused half of the ship to sink and one crew member to die.
- Two other ships, Volgoneft 239 and Volgoneft 109, faced similar problems, but their crew members were quickly rescued.
रूस ने काला सागर में तेल रिसाव के बाद आपातकाल घोषित किया
- 15 दिसंबर, 2024 को सर्दियों के तूफ़ान के दौरान एक रूसी तेल टैंकर, वोल्गोनेफ़्ट 212, टूट गया, जिससे काला सागर में एक बड़ा तेल रिसाव हुआ।
- टैंकर 4,000 टन से ज़्यादा ईंधन ले जा रहा था। इस आपदा के कारण जहाज़ का आधा हिस्सा डूब गया और एक चालक दल के सदस्य की मौत हो गई।

Lakshya Sen won bronze medal at King Cup International 2024
- In Badminton, India’s Lakshya Sen won the bronze medal at the King Cup International Badminton Open 2024 with a win over French shuttler Alex Lanier.
- Lakshya defeated Lanier 21-17, 21-11 in the bronze medal match, bringing a successful end to his campaign.
- Earlier, Lakshya had lost to China’s Hu Zhenhan in the semi-finals.
- Lakshya was the only Indian representative in the tournament.

- Koneru Humpy defeated Irene Sukandar of Indonesia to win her second title at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship.
- She became the second woman to win the title multiple times after China’s Ju Wenjun, who first won the title in Georgia in 2019.
- 18-year-old Volodar Murzin of Russia won the men’s title, becoming the second-youngest champion in the tournament’s history after Nodirbek Abdusattorov.

- The champions received ₹3 Crores while the runners-up Patna Pirates received ₹1.8 Crores.

Mikheil Kavelashvili became the President of Georgia
- Mikhail has been sworn in as the new President of Georgia.
- The former footballer is a staunch critic of the West and is supported by the anti-EU ruling party Georgian Dream.
- Mr Kavelashvili was the only candidate on the ballot and easily won the election in early December, as the Georgian Dream party controls the 300-seat electoral college, which was established in 2017 to replace direct presidential elections.
