Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra took over the command of Western Air Command
- Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra, a fighter pilot with over 3000 flying hours of experience, took command of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force.
- With 38 years of distinguished service, he has held key command and staff roles including Chief Test Pilot and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff.
- A recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal, he will replace Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha.

Bhuvnesh Kumar took over as CEO of UIDAI
- Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, a 1995 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre has taken over as CEO of UIDAI while serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- A gold medallist from NIT Kurukshetra, he has held several important roles including Principal Secretary in the Animal Husbandry Department of Uttar Pradesh and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- His career has seen him hold key positions in the sectors of Finance, MSME, Sports etc.

- NIT कुरुक्षेत्र से स्वर्ण पदक विजेता, उन्होंने उत्तर प्रदेश के पशुपालन विभाग में प्रधान सचिव और इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय में संयुक्त सचिव सहित कई महत्वपूर्ण भूमिकाएँ निभाई हैं।

India’s renewable energy capacity to exceed 200 GW by 2024
- India achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 200 GW of installed renewable energy capacity in September 2024, representing a growth of 14% year-on-year.
- Initiatives like PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme and National Green Hydrogen Mission to expand solar power to 94 GW and promote green hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions and fossil fuel imports.
- It is in line with the Panchamrit goals of India.

Sai Paranjpe to be honoured with Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award
- Veteran filmmaker Sai Paranjpye, known for classic films like Sparsh, Chashme Badoor, Katha and Saaz, will be honoured with the Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival 2025.
- The 10th edition of the festival will be held from January 15 to 19 at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
- This was announced by AIFF officials including Ashutosh Gowariker.

Odia poet Prativa Satpathy to be given Gangadhar National Award
- Eminent Odia poet Pratibha Satpathy will be awarded the Gangadhar National Poetry Award for 2023 from Sambalpur University on January 5.
- Best known for her acclaimed work ‘Shesha Janha’, Pratibha Satpathy’s works have been translated into several Indian and foreign languages.
- This award in the name of poet Gangadhar Mehar is given every year since 1989.

Eminent Sanskrit scholar Pierre-Sylvain Filliozat passes away
- Pierre-Sylvain Filliozat (1936-2024), French Sanskrit scholar renowned for his significant contributions to Sanskrit studies, passed away on December 28, 2024.
- His wife, Vasundara Kavali Filiozat, was a renowned scholar of Karnataka, known for her research on Hampi.
- Filiozat was awarded the Padma Shri, Knight of the Legion of Honour and other prestigious awards.

- संस्कृत अध्ययन में अपने महत्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए प्रख्यात फ्रांसीसी संस्कृत विद्वान पियरे-सिल्वेन फिलिओज़ैट (1936-2024) का 28 दिसंबर, 2024 को निधन हो गया।
- उनकी पत्नी, वसुंदरा कावली फिलिओज़ैट, कर्नाटक की एक प्रसिद्ध विदुषी थीं, जो हम्पी पर अपने अनुसंधान के लिए जानी जाती थीं।
- फिलिओज़ैट को पद्म श्री, नाइट ऑफ़ द लीजन ऑफ़ ऑनर और अन्य प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया गया था।
Famous botanist K. S. Manilal passed away at the age of 86
- Eminent botanist K. S. Manilal, best known for translating “Hortus Malabaricus” into English and Malayalam, died in Thrissur at the age of 86.
- A recipient of the Padma Shri award, he authored several books, over 200 research papers and discovered new plant species.
- Prime Minister Modi appreciated his contributions to botany, history and culture of Kerala.
- He was also awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

India’s relief assistance to Vanuatu after the earthquake
- India provided relief assistance of US$ 5 lakh to Vanuatu for rehabilitation following the massive devastation and loss of life and property caused by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake.
