Japan’s birth rate will again reach a record low in 2024
- Japan’s birth rate has fallen for the ninth consecutive year, reaching a historic low in 2024.
- According to preliminary data from the Health Ministry, 720,988 babies were born in Japan in 2024, including to foreign nationals, down five percent from 758,631 in 2023.
- The number of births has fallen to the lowest level since the government began tracking the data in 1899.

CISF renames training centre after Chola prince Rajaditya
CISF Recruits Training Centre (RTC) at Arakkonam is now Rajadithya Cholan (RTC), Thakkolam.
- It was named after the Chola prince Rajaditya who died in the Battle of Thakolam against the Rashtrakutas in 949 AD.
- Rajaditya, called ‘Yanaimal Thunjiya Devar’, is mentioned in Chola inscriptions and in Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan.

अराक्कोनम में CISF का रिक्रूट्स ट्रेनिंग सेंटर (आरटीसी) अब राजादित्य चोलन (RTC), थाक्कोलम है।
- इसका नाम चोल राजकुमार राजादित्य के नाम पर रखा गया, जिनकी 949 ई. में राष्ट्रकूटों के विरुद्ध थक्कोलम की लड़ाई में मृत्यु हो गई थी।
- राजादित्य, जिन्हें ‘यनाईमेल थुन्जिया देवार’ कहा जाता है, का उल्लेख चोल शिलालेखों और कल्कि के पोन्नियिन सेलवन में मिलता है।

- Ground-penetrating radar detected littoral deposits, similar to Earth’s beaches, indicating water-land connections in the past.
- The findings suggest that life was once possible on Mars, supporting the possibility of ancient microbial life.

- Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched ‘One Nation-One Port Process (ONOP)’ to standardise port operations and enhance efficiency.
- Sagar Ankalyan LPPI Index for FY 2023-24 introduced to improve the performance and global trade competitiveness of ports.
- India Global Ports Consortium and MAITRI were launched to promote India’s maritime trade and simplify regulatory processes.

- Raj Kamal Jha won the Banaras Lit Fest Award in the Ruskin Bond Fiction Book Award category for his novel The Patient in Bed No. 12.
- The award was announced at the curtain raiser event of Banaras Lit Fest 2025, the main festival of which will be held on March 7-9 at Hotel Taj, Banaras.
- In this program Kashinath Singh will be given the Bharatendu Harishchandra Lifetime Achievement Award.
