- India is expected to achieve 6.5% real GDP growth in both the current (FY25) and next financial year (FY26), supported by strong economic fundamentals.
- Recent data show a decline in manufacturing PMI and a slowdown in private consumption, with GDP growth decelerating from 6.7% in Q1 FY25 to 5.4% in Q2 FY25.
- CPI inflation eased to 5.5% in November, from 6.2% in October.

- Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
- He served as Prime Minister for two terms from 2004 to 2014 under the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
- Manmohan Singh served as Finance Minister under then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.
- He was the architect and thinker of the economic reforms in 1991.

- वह 2004 से 2014 तक कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व वाली यूनाइटेड प्रोग्रेसिव अलायन्स (UPA) सरकार में दो कार्यकालों के लिए प्रधानमंत्री रहे।
- मनमोहन सिंह ने तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री पीवी नरसिम्हा राव के अधीन वित्त मंत्री के रूप में कार्य किया।
- वह 1991 में आर्थिक सुधारों के वास्तुकार और विचारक थे।
Tonga elects new prime minister amid political turmoil
- Tonga’s parliament elected veteran politician ‘Aisake Valu Ake as the new prime minister following the resignation of Siaosi Sowaleni, who won 16 votes compared to rival Viliami Latu’s 8.
- Aisake Walu Eke, who previously served as Finance Minister from 2014 to 2017, will officially take office in February 2025 and lead the country into general elections scheduled for November 2025.

- टोंगा की संसद ने सियाओसी सोवालेनी के इस्तीफे के बाद अनुभवी राजनेता ‘आइसाके वलू एके को नया प्रधानमंत्री चुना, जिन्होंने प्रतिद्वंद्वी विलियामी लाटू के 8 वोटों के मुकाबले 16 वोट हासिल किए।
आइसाके वलू एके, जिन्होंने पहले 2014 से 2017 तक वित्त मंत्री के रूप में कार्य किया था, आधिकारिक तौर पर फरवरी 2025 में पदभार ग्रहण करेंगे और नवंबर 2025 में होने वाले आम चुनावों में देश का नेतृत्व करेंगे।
Delhi Government launches Ambedkar Scholarship for students
- The Delhi government has announced the Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship Scheme, aimed at providing assistance to SC/ST students pursuing higher education abroad, the entire expense of which will be borne by the state.
- Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal unveiled this initiative.
- In August 2019, the AAP Delhi Cabinet approved a scholarship scheme for higher education abroad for 100 Dalit students every year.

Bald Eagle officially declared as America’s national bird
- The Bald Eagle is officially declared the national bird of the United States.
- The bald eagle has represented American strength and freedom since its depiction on the Great Seal in 1782.
- The bald eagle population, once considered endangered, has increased significantly due to protective laws, and is now estimated to number more than 315,000.

- बाल्ड ईगल को आधिकारिक तौर पर संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका का राष्ट्रीय पक्षी घोषित किया गया है।
- 1782 में ग्रेट सील पर इसके चित्रण के बाद से बाल्ड ईगल अमेरिकी शक्ति और स्वतंत्रता का प्रतिनिधित्व करता रहा है।
- एक समय लुप्तप्राय माने जाने वाले बाल्ड ईगल की जनसंख्या सुरक्षात्मक कानूनों के कारण काफी बढ़ गई है, तथा अनुमान है कि अब यह संख्या 315,000 से अधिक हो गई है।
Hockey India League 2024-25 begins in Rourkela
- Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 will begin at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha.
- The league will be held in two phases. The first phase will run from December 28 to January 18, followed by the second phase starting on January 19.
- The semi-finals will be held on January 31, while the grand finale will be on February 1, 2025.
हॉकी इंडिया लीग 2024-25 राउरकेला में शुरू हुई
- हॉकी इंडिया लीग (HIL) 2024-25 ओडिशा के राउरकेला में बिरसा मुंडा हॉकी स्टेडियम में शुरू होगी।
- लीग दो चरणों में होगी। पहला चरण 28 दिसंबर से 18 जनवरी तक चलेगा, उसके बाद दूसरा चरण 19 जनवरी से शुरू होगा।
- सेमीफाइनल 31 जनवरी को होंगे, जबकि ग्रैंड फिनाले 1 फरवरी, 2025 को होगा।
President Murmu presented the Prime Minister’s National Child Award
- President Draupadi Murmu presented the Prime Minister’s National Child Awards to 17 children in seven categories for their exceptional achievements.
This year, 17 children (7 boys and 10 girls) from 14 States and Union Territories have been selected for this award.

BPCL plans $11 billion refinery project in southern Andhra Pradesh
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation plans to invest $11 billion in a new refinery and petrochemical project in the southern Andhra Pradesh state.
- BPCL has started pre-project work, including land acquisition, to build a refinery and ethylene cracker with a capacity of at least 9 million metric tonnes per annum.
- The project will have 35% petrochemical intensity and may cost Rs 90,000 crore-Rs 950 crore ($10.56 billion-$11.14 billion).
