- Lahore and Delhi are currently the most polluted cities globally, with AQI 232 in Lahore and 204 in Delhi.
- An AQI above 100 is considered unhealthy, while levels above 150 are classified as ‘very unhealthy’.
- The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a tool used to measure and report air pollution levels, ranging from 0 to 500.
- A value below 50 is considered “good.”

- लाहौर और दिल्ली वर्तमान में विश्व स्तर पर सबसे प्रदूषित शहर हैं, लाहौर में AQI 232 और दिल्ली में 204 है।

Expat Introduction 2024 launched in Riyadh
- The 2024 Diaspora Introduction Programme was inaugurated by Ambassador Dr. Suhail Ejaz Khan in Riyadh.
- The event will showcase the linguistic diversity of India through performances in all 11 classical languages.
- The main attractions included a unique play combining narration, poetry, dance and songs as well as a quiz and a painting exhibition.
- This initiative was launched in partnership with Indian diaspora associations.

Hong Kong bans popular apps from government computers
- The Hong Kong government has banned apps such as WhatsApp, WeChat and Google Drive in the workplace to reduce cybersecurity risks, although exceptions may be granted.
- Civil servants frustrated by new IT security guidelines but they can still use the app on personal devices.
- Government’s approach is justified due to low awareness about cyber security.

New RTI museum set up in Rajasthan focusing on digital exclusion
- Foundation stone of RTI Museum was laid at Beawar, the birthplace of RTI movement, highlighting issues of digital exclusion in social security pensions.
- Eminent personalities like Justice Madan Lokur, Aruna Roy and Prashant Bhushan stressed on restoration of pension for 13.5 lakh people in Rajasthan.
- The museum will document the history of RTI, serving as a resource centre for rights-based movements.

Andhra Pradesh plans to make law to increase child birth rate
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced plans to enact a law encouraging residents to have more children.
- India’s population will grow significantly, as the southern states are already seeing an increase in the elderly population due to historically low fertility rates.
- Southern states will contribute less to population growth (29 million vs 311 million nationally by 2036).

- आंध्र प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री एन. चंद्रबाबू नायडू ने निवासियों को अधिक बच्चे पैदा करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने वाला कानून बनाने की योजना की घोषणा की है।

Newly discovered species named after Leonardo DiCaprio
- A snake species, Anguiculus dicaprio, discovered in the western Himalayas, has been named after actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
- Found at an altitude of 6,000 feet in Himachal Pradesh and other areas, the species is distinguished by its unique physical characteristics like broad collar, small brown spots and robust skull.
- This species has also been found in Nainital and Chitwan National Park of Nepal.

- पश्चिमी हिमालय में एक साँप की प्रजाति, एंगुइकुलस डिकैप्रियो की खोज की गई है, जिसका नाम अभिनेता लियोनार्डो डिकैप्रियो के नाम पर रखा गया है।
- हिमाचल प्रदेश और अन्य क्षेत्रों में 6,000 फीट की ऊँचाई पर पाई जाने वाली यह प्रजाति अपने अनोखे शारीरिक लक्षणों जैसे चौड़े कॉलर, छोटे भूरे धब्बे और मजबूत खोपड़ी के कारण अलग पहचान रखती है।
- यह प्रजाति नैनीताल और नेपाल के चितवन राष्ट्रीय उद्यान में भी पाई गई है।
Australia named focus country for 55th IFFI
- Australia is the ‘Country of Focus’ at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
- Seven Australian films will be screened, highlighting both Indigenous and contemporary stories.
- This follows the Audio Visual Co-production Treaty between India and Australia, which promotes joint film production with incentives for filmmakers.

Dara Singh Khurana was awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award
- Actor Darasingh Khurana has received the Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award as ‘Commonwealth Year of Youth Champion’ for his work towards raising awareness about mental health issues.
- Khurana, 32, an Indian actor and philanthropist, has also served as a keynote speaker at the Global Mental Health Summit 2024 at the historic Oxford Union at the University of Oxford.
