Cyclone Remal is about to reach the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh
- IMD has predicted the formation of Cyclone Ramal in the Bay of Bengal.
- Tropical cyclones are storm systems with low pressure centers, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.
- Formation: Warm water (above 26.5°C), between 5° and 30° latitude, requires Coriolis force, weather disturbances, moisture and low wind shear.
- Structure: Akshu (cool centre), Akshubhitthi (strong winds/rainfall), Rainband (spiral thunderstorm)

Dinesh Karthik announces retirement from IPL
- Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik played his last IPL match in the eliminator loss against Rajasthan Royals.
- Dinesh Karthik is a skilled Indian cricketer and made his international debut in 2004 and has played more than 300 T20 matches.
- Karthik served as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders between 2018 and 2020 and has also been a commentator for Sky Sports.

India will get next generation nuclear fuel from Russia
- During Ajit Kumar Mohanty’s visit to Tomsk, Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev announced that Russia will supply next generation nuclear fuel to India.
- Nuclear energy is obtained by splitting atoms in a reactor, turning water into steam, turning a turbine, and generating electricity.
- India operates 22 nuclear power reactors with a total capacity of 6.8 GW, contributing about 3% to the country’s energy mix.
भारत को रूस से अगली पीढ़ी का परमाणु ईंधन मिलेगा
- अजीत कुमार मोहंती की टॉम्स्क यात्रा के दौरान रोसाटॉम के प्रमुख एलेक्सी लिकचेव ने घोषणा की कि रूस, भारत को अगली पीढ़ी के परमाणु ईंधन की आपूर्ति करेगा।
- परमाणु ऊर्जा एक रिएक्टर में परमाणुओं को विभाजित करके जल को भाप में बदलने, टरबाइन को चालू करने और विद्युत उत्पन्न करने से प्राप्त होती है।

India’s ‘Sunflowers Were the First Once to Know’ wins La Cinef Award
- Chidanand S of FTII, Pune. Naik’s film ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ has won the first prize at the La Sinef Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
- The film depicts an elderly woman and a stolen chicken influencing sunlight in a village, inspired by Karnataka folklore.
- La Cinéf awarded second prize to films from Greece and the United States, while third prize was awarded to the UK entry.

- FTII, पुणे के चिदानंद एस. नाइक की फिल्म ‘सनफ्लावर वेयर द फर्स्ट वन्स टू नों’ ने कान्स फिल्म फेस्टिवल 2024 में ला सिनेफ पुरस्कार में प्रथम पुरस्कार जीता है।

Wheat procurement crossed last year’s total procurement figures
- The five purchasing states Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh contributed majorly to the procurement.
- Wheat is a Rabi crop.
- This crop thrives in cool climates, grows in moist weather and then matures in hot, dry conditions.
- Optimum germination occurs at 20-25°C but can range from 5 to 35°C.
- The ideal soil for wheat is clay loam or loam with moderate water capacity.

BRO built road in Kargil with REJUPAVE road construction technology
- BRO’s ‘Project Vijayak’ in Kargil successfully used REJUPAVE technology for road construction in Drass, one of the coldest regions in the world.
- REJUPAVE, developed by CSIR-CRRI, enhances bituminous road durability and reduces heat requirements, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- This innovation allows construction at higher elevations, improving road life and environmental sustainability.
