Justice Sanjiv Khanna recommended as the next Chief Justice of India
- Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has recommended Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor to become the 51st Chief Justice of India.
- Justice Chandrachud will retire on November 10, 2024.
- Justice Khanna, appointed to the Supreme Court in 2019, has handled several notable cases, including the abrogation of Article 370 and granting interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal.
- Justice Khanna will retire on May 13, 2025.

- 2019 में उच्चतम न्यायालय में नियुक्त न्यायमूर्ति खन्ना ने अनुच्छेद 370 को निरस्त करने और अरविंद केजरीवाल को अंतरिम जमानत देने सहित कई उल्लेखनीय मामलों को संभाला है।

The Supreme Court upheld Section 6A of the Citizenship Act by a 4:1 majority
- Section 6A was introduced as part of the Assam Accord of 1985, a political settlement to address illegal migration from Bangladesh to Assam.
- CJI Chandrachud, leading the majority opinion, said Section 6A balances humanitarian and economic concerns, applying to migrants who came between 1950 and 1971.
- Justice J.B. Pardiwala dissented and declared Section 6A unconstitutional over time.

- Union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh unveiled India’s first airport-based self-powered indoor air quality monitoring facility Pawan Chitra at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
- The off-grid air quality monitor is powered by indigenous indoor solar cells developed by CSIR-NIIST and fabricated from locally available materials.

Karnal artist Aditi Anand wins UK Illustration Award
- 25-year-old artist Aditi Anand from Haryana won the Emerging Illustrator category award at the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum’s Illustration Awards for her artwork Marigolds.
- This artwork, which addresses child labour in India, was selected from over 2,000 entries and won a prize of £3,000.
- Marigolds will be on display at the V&A Museum in London until September 2025.

- Former BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has been appointed Director of Cricket at JSW Sports, who will oversee cricketing properties like Delhi Capitals (IPL, WPL) and Pretoria Capitals (SAT20 League).
- Ganguly scored 11363 runs in his ODI career which is 9th in the world for most runs in ODI matches.

Karnataka CM renames schools after Maharishi Valmiki
- On the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that all residential schools in the state will be renamed as ‘Maharshi Valmiki Residential Schools’.
- The name of Raichur University will also be changed to Maharishi Valmiki University.

- महर्षि वाल्मीकि जयंती के अवसर पर कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री सिद्धारमैया ने घोषणा की कि राज्य के सभी आवासीय विद्यालयों का नाम बदलकर ‘महर्षि वाल्मीकि आवासीय विद्यालय’ कर दिया जाएगा।

VVIP Security Levels and Agencies in India
- In India, security details are provided to high-risk individuals by the police and local government, which are classified into 6 levels based on threat perception: SPG, Z+ (highest), Z, Y+, Y and X
- These security levels include persons like the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, Armed Forces Chiefs, Governors, Chief Ministers, Ministers, actors and other VIPs.

RBI imposes restrictions on four micro lenders
- RBI barred four microfinance companies – Ashirvad, Arohan, DMI Finance and Navi Finserv from issuing loans from October 21, 2024 due to excessive pricing and regulatory violations.
- The issues included deviations in income recognition, debt evergreening and non-compliance with interest rate norms.
- Companies can continue to service existing loans but will have to implement corrective measures.

Vivaan won silver and Naruka won bronze medal in Shooting World Cup
- Vivaan Kapoor won the silver medal in the men’s trap event at the ISSF World Cup, scoring 44 points in the final.
- Anantjeet Singh Naruka won the bronze medal in the men’s skeet event with 43 points, adding to India’s medal tally.
- India’s medal tally in the event rose to four, including earlier wins by Sonam Maskar and Akhil Sheoran.
