- The Kampala Declaration marked 20 years of CAADP, recommitting to the goals of Agenda 2063 for agrarian transformation and food sovereignty.
- Key challenges include low investment, limited technology adoption and weak value chains, but there is potential in the vast arable land.
- Ethiopia, Rwanda and Djibouti showed progress in wheat self-sufficiency, technology integration and youth engagement.

CRPF forms new VIP security group
- After being de-activated from Parliament duty in January 2025, the Parliament Duty Group (PDG) of CRPF was disbanded and merged with the VIP Security Group (VSG).
- The VSG now comprises Battalion 190, earlier involved in anti-Naxal operations, with over 1,000 personnel to enhance high-profile security.
- This change, formalised through a Home Ministry order, has strengthened VIP security.

Ecologically sensitive area declared near Shikari Devi Sanctuary
- Shikari Devi Wildlife Sanctuary in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh now has an ESZ covering 43 villages in an area of 2 km.
- Declared under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the area aims to prevent deforestation, reduce human-wildlife conflict and regulate development.
- Sustainable activities such as organic farming are allowed, while harmful activities such as mining and deforestation are prohibited.

Chandigarh University awarded MAKA Trophy and Arjuna Award
- Chandigarh University became the first private university to win the prestigious MAKA Trophy, comprising 71 Khelo India University Games medals.
- CU student and Indian hockey player Sanjay Kumar received the Arjuna Award for his outstanding contribution to hockey.
- CU had the largest representation of 22 athletes in the Indian contingent at the 19th Asian Games, winning 10 medals for the country.

Maharashtra forms panel for AI policy
The Maharashtra government has set up a 16-member AI Policy Taskforce to develop the state’s AI Policy 2025.
The taskforce will provide recommendations to benefit from the rapid growth of AI-based industries.

RBI introduces daily VRR operations to boost banking liquidity
- To address the acute shortage of liquidity in the banking system, RBI has introduced daily Variable Rate Repo (VRR) operations.
- Daily VRR auctions starting at Rs 50,000 crore are aimed at maintaining stability in India’s money markets and keeping call rates in line with the policy repo rate.
- Along with VRR, RBI is conducting dollar-rupee buy-sell swaps of up to $3 billion to enhance cash flow.
