29th Kerala International Film Festival begins
- The 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 13 at the Nishagandhi Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram.
- Featuring 177 films from 68 countries, the festival includes categories like International Competition (14 films), Malayalam Cinema Today (12 films) and World Cinema (63 films).
- Organised by Kerala State Film Academy.

- केरल के 29वें अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव (IFFK) का उद्घाटन 13 दिसंबर को मुख्यमंत्री पिनाराई विजयन द्वारा तिरुवनंतपुरम के निशागांधी ऑडिटोरियम में किया जाएगा।
- 68 देशों की 177 फिल्मों की विशेषता वाले इस महोत्सव में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रतियोगिता (14 फिल्में), मलयालम सिनेमा टुडे (12 फिल्में) और विश्व सिनेमा (63 फिल्में) जैसी श्रेणियां शामिल हैं।
- केरल राज्य चलचित्र अकादमी द्वारा आयोजित।
Ann Hui and Payal Kapadia honoured at IFFK 2024
- Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, carrying ₹10 lakh, a statue and a citation, at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala.
- Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia will be honoured with the Spirit of Cinema Award, carrying a prize money of ₹5 lakh and a memento.
- Both awards celebrate exceptional contributions to global and Indian cinema.
IFFK 2024 में एन हुई और पायल कपाड़िया को सम्मानित किया गया
- हांगकांग की फिल्म निर्माता एन हुई को केरल के 29वें अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव में लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जाएगा, जिसमें ₹10 लाख, एक मूर्ति और एक प्रशस्ति पत्र शामिल है।
- भारतीय फिल्म निर्माता पायल कपाड़िया को स्पिरिट ऑफ सिनेमा पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जाएगा, जिसमें ₹5 लाख और एक स्मृति चिन्ह दिया जाएगा।
- दोनों पुरस्कार वैश्विक और भारतीय सिनेमा में असाधारण योगदान का जश्न मनाते हैं।
Ministry of External Affairs announces two key diplomatic appointments
- Om Prakash Meena, former Deputy Secretary (Central and West Africa), has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso.
- Abhay Kumar, Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, will serve as the next Ambassador of India to Georgia.

- Merriam-Webster’s word of 2024 is “polarization,” highlighting social and political divisions.
- The term reflects public interest following the US election, often featured in media discussions of political extremism.
- ‘Democracy’ also attracted attention, reflecting bipartisan efforts to understand and defend its meaning.

DPIIT and Flipkart partner to promote Indian startups
- The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade signed a MoU with Flipkart to mentor and invest in Indian startups leveraging Flipkart’s $100 million venture fund under the Leap and Ventures initiative.
- The partnership will provide startups access to government reports, datasets and fast-track patent applications, while supporting prototype development and international expansion.

Supreme Court grants permanent commission to women army officers
- The Supreme Court, exercising powers under Article 142, granted permanent commission to a woman Army officer who was wrongly excluded from consideration.
- The decision emphasised fairness for soldiers of similar rank, and rejected the “unreasonable attitude” of officers.
- The officer, who is a lieutenant colonel in the Army Dental Corps, will get retrospective benefits under the 2014 decision from the same date as others get the benefit.
उच्चतम न्यायालय ने महिला सैन्य अधिकारियों को स्थायी कमीशन प्रदान किया

Human Rights Day: December 10, 2024

- This declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 and stated for the first time the fundamental human rights to be universally protected.
- President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu attended and addressed the Human Rights Day function organized by the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi.

- यह घोषणा 10 दिसंबर 1948 को पेरिस में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा घोषित की गई थी और इसमें पहली बार सार्वभौमिक रूप से संरक्षित किए जाने वाले मौलिक मानवाधिकारों की बात कही गई थी।
- भारत की राष्ट्रपति श्रीमती द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग द्वारा आयोजित मानवाधिकार दिवस समारोह में भाग लिया और उसे संबोधित किया।
India mourns the death of former Karnataka CM S.M. Krishna
- Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna (1932-2024) was the 10th Chief Minister of Karnataka (1999–2004) and Foreign Minister of India (2009–2012).
- He also served as the Governor of Maharashtra (2004–2008), Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and member of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
- He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2023 for his exceptional contribution to Indian politics.
